Welcome to The Haystack!
This is a place where you’re likely to find crazy and curious thoughts on a wide variety of topics. Some of those thoughts may be rambling, others short and sweet. I’m not confident any of them will be particularly valuable, but I am somehow confident that at least one of them will have a sharp point; a needle in a haystack.
Hopefully all the hay will serve as healthy food for thought and provide a good deal of enjoyment. I know it will for me personally! If you find yourself enjoying a topic and would like to add some of your own thinking to The Haystack don’t hesitate to reach out! My idea of success for this project is to inspire collaboration.
If you’re curious, here’s a bit about me.
My name is Danielle Callan and I think of myself as a bit of a polymath and an opinionated autodidact. I love reading and learning and thinking about new and difficult topics. I decided one day that I don’t want those thoughts to be lost and I would love if others enjoyed them too!
I studied Bioinformatics at Rutgers University which eventually got me a Master’s of Business and Science degree. I sometimes think the degree is all I got there though. I do most of my learning on my own and think there are a number of ways in which Academia failed me. (Maybe I’ll write something about it later!)
I have found I enjoy nearly every science I’ve ever been introduced to, am fascinated by philosophy, curious about the history of the subjects I find myself studying, endlessly impressed by the way technology transforms society and constantly dreaming about how the world around me works and might be improved.
If that sounds like you too, come and join me!
